Beulah Scruggs was born in the heat of July 6 in 1884 in Lee County, MS. Her father was raised in Tennessee and had come to Lee County with his brother to farm the land. Her mother grew up in nearby Itawamba County and spent her days managing her ever-growing family. By 1900 they owned their home and land outright.
Beulah married James Washington Plunkett on Christmas Eve in 1906 when she was 22 years old and he was 24. They moved Mooreville in east Lee County to be near his mother and younger siblings. Jim and Beulah went on the have seven children and eventually moved to Troy, in Pontotoc County, MS and then Shannon, in south Lee County. They attended Bogafala Church. In 1948, at only 55 years old, Beulah suffered a prolonged illness that eventually took her life.
One of Beulah's daughters was Sula Plunkett, my great grandmother.
